Maihar gharana

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maihar gharana was formed principally by sarod maestro Baba Allaudin Khan in Maihar, India.

It is one of the most prominent gharanas of the 20th century; much of the fame of Hindustani classical music in the west stems from this gharana. Prominent musicians belonging to the Maihar gharana include sitarists Pandit Ravi Shankar and Nikhil Banerjee, and Allauddin Khan's's son, sarod player Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
