Maida, North Dakota

Maida (also Seven Hakes) is an unincorporated community in northern Cavalier County, North Dakota, United States. It lies along North Dakota Highway 1 north of the city of Langdon, the county seat of Cavalier County.[1] Its elevation is 1,562 feet (476 m), and it is located at (48.9986120, -98.3648321). Various possibilities have been suggested for the etymology of the name "Maida":[2]
- A book read by Charles Howalt, the first postmaster
- Suggested by two Canadian bankers from a dog in a novel by Sir Walter Scott
- A clipping of "maiden" name for a haymeadow
Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 58255.[3]
