Mahmoud El-Gohary

Mahmoud El-Gohary (Arabic: محمود الجوهرى), born June 23, 1937, is an Egyptian football coach and former player. He is one of the most important figures in the history of Egyptian and African football, and is considered by many as the best Egyptian football coach ever.[citation needed]

He was the top scorer of the 1959 edition of the African Cup of Nations, which was won by Egypt.

He was the manager of the Egyptian national team from 1988 to 2002, and helped the team qualify to the 1990 World Cup after a 56-year absence from the tournament. El-Gohary was manager of the Jordan national team.
