Mahinda Samarasinghe

Mahinda Samarasinghe (born 30 January 1956) is a former Sri Lankan diplomat and the cabinet minister of disaster management and human rights of Sri Lanka since 2006. He co-chairs the Permanent Standing Committee on Human Rights, the other chair being minister of ex foreign affairs Mangala Samaraweera. He studied Economics. He was elected to parliament for Kalutara district in 1994. He used to be minister of labour.
Samarasinghe was government chief whip and opposition chief whip. Also he is a ex-member of the UNP. Futhermore, he presided at the International Conference on Disaster research & Ethics in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Samarasinghe is a Buddhist.
