Mahdi Al Tajir (Arabic: مهدي التاجر) is a billionaire businessman from the United Arab Emirates, based in the United Kingdom. He has interests in finance and real estate operations, and owns the Highland Spring bottled water company. In the Sunday Times Rich List 2007 ranking of the wealthiest people in the UK he was placed 21st with an estimated fortune of £2,200 million. The Times have stated in a previous edition of the list that their estimate is significantly lower than the estimates of other institutions.[1]
Al Tajir hails from the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East and started his career as a Customs Official in the Dubai port. After gaining favour with the then ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, he became one of Sheikh Rashid's most trusted advisors and was made the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the United Kingdom.
Today, Mahdi Al Tajir is considered as one of the wealthiest individuals in the UK and is also known for his extensive collection of antique silver artifacts and carpets.
Al Tajir now lives in Dubai in a mansion on the famous Jumeira Road near Burj Al Arab. He often engages in philanthropic activities, donating large amounts of money to charities and non-governmental organizations.
