Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) is a technological institution located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India in an area of 120,000 square metres.

It was started in 1997 by the Chaitanya Bharathi Educational Society (CBES), Hyderabad, registered under the Societies Registration Act. Currently, the annual intake is 480 students.

The institute is affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and offers the four-year course of Bachelor of Technology, prescribed by JNTU, in six disciplines.

The institute offers a four-year degree Bachelor of Technology, in six key disciplines:

  • Department of Computer Science Engineering (CSE).
  • Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT).
  • Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE).
  • Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).
  • Department of Mechanical Engineering(Mechatronics) (MCT).
  • Department of Metallurgy and Materials Technology (MMT).

Every semester has a minimum of eight courses, which includes a minimum of two laboratory courses.

Students are required to attain a total of 212 credits and attend the institute for duration of not less than four years and not more than eight years to be considered for the award of the degree. The institute follows JNTU’s strict attendance regulation, which requires students to put in a minimum class attendance of 65% to progress to the next semester.

External (university) exams are held every semester in the campus itself and marks in all these exams count towards the final aggregate.

The minimum criterion for admission is 60% marks in the Intermediate/10+2 Examination. Students are admitted primarily based on their ranks in the Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET), held by the JNTU every year.

Competition is usually intense and is increasing dramatically every year as the institute’s profile in both academic and extracurricular activities is rapidly improving.

Every department has its own department head, laboratories and faculty. Departments often cooperate with each other since a considerable number of courses are of interdisciplinary nature.

Students of MGIT have been placed in some companies in and out of Hyderabad. The institute has a Campus Placements Cell, which works diligently towards attracting various IT companies to conduct on campus placement programs. In the last two years, companies like Accenture, IBM, Capgemini, McKinsey, Booz Allen, Bain, PRTM, BCG, CSC, TCS,Infosys, HSBC,Wipro, Satyam, Cognizant have hired many top talent from strong pool of bright students from MGIT.

Alumnus of MGIT are doing or completed their Masters from many US, German and Indian Universities with distinction. Many alumni of MGIT are in Universities like Indian Institute of Technology, Stanford, MIT, Oxford, USD, Columbia, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Northwestern, INSEAD, Wharton, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Harvard, IMD, London Business School, Yale, Kellogg, BU, UCLA, USC etc..
