Mahananda

Mahananda is a sandhi or word agglutinate in Sanskrit and several other Indo-Aryan languages meaning "great happiness" or someone who has achieved such a state. Once a common given name in India, this name is now widely considered archaic. Both the male form (IAST: mahānanda, IPA[məhɑnənðə] in Sanskrit, [mɔhɑnɔnðo] in Bengali), and the female form (IAST: mahānandā, [məhɑnəndɑ] in Sanskrit, [mɔhɑnɔnðɑ] in Bengali) are spelt in the same fashion in colloquial English transliteration.
