Coordinates: 24°06′N 87°30′E / 24.1, 87.5 Mahammad Bazar (also spelt Mohammad Bazar) (Bengali: মহম্মদবাজার) is a town with a police station, community development block and an assembly constituency in Suri subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

In the 2001 census, Mahammad Bazar community development block had a population of 139,478 out of which 71,430 were males and 68,948 were females.[1]

Mahmmad Bazar is an intermediate panchayat (local self government) under Birbhum Zilla Parishad. Village panchayats under Mahmmad Bazar intermediate panchayat are: Angargaria, Bharkata, Bhutura, Charicha, Deucha, Gonpur, Hinglow, Kapista, Mahammad Bazar, Puranagram, Rampur, Sekedda. [2]

In the 2001 assembly elections, Dhiren Bagdi of CPI(M) won the Mahammad Bazar seat defeating Biswajit Mukherjee of INC. Dhiren Sen of CPI(M) held the seat from 1977 to 2001, defeating Sailen Mahata of AITC in 2001, Rajaram Ghosh of INC in 1996, Nirmal Chandra Mandal of BJP in 1991, Tapan Mukherjee of INC in 1987, Sunil Das of INC in 1982, and Nitaipada Ghosh of INC in 1977.[3]

Mahammad Bazar is part of Birbhum (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
