Mahale is a surname in Maharashtra, India. This surname was made famous by a warrior called Jiva Mahale. He was a bodyguard of legendary king Chhatrapati Shivaji. Jiva Mahale saved Shivaji in a war against Afzal Khan who was a general of Nijam. This incident made a popular phrase in Marathi community "Jiva Saved Shiva".
