Mahabandoola Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mahabandoola Park or Mahabandoola Garden is a public botanical area in downtown Yangon, in Burma. Located in the Kyauktada Township the garden surrounds some of the important government buildings in the area such as the Yangon City Hall and the High Court of Burma. [1]
It is named after General Mahabandoola (c. 1780 - 1 April 1825), a famous general who fought against the British in the First Anglo-Burmese War, from 1824 to 1826. He was influential in helping the Konbaung Dynasty pursue a policy of expansionism.
The park was formerly named Fitche Square after English trader Ralph Fitch.
