User talk:Magmagirl
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi Magmagirl, and welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've been working on the list of requested pictures. While work there is certainly appreciated, you should be aware that only free images are allowed on Wikipedia -- it looks like you're grabbing pictures from various websites, which is not allowed without specific consent, as those websites own the copyright to those pictures. I suggest you read about Wikipedia's copyright policies for images at Wikipedia:Copyrights. -Bantman 21:52, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:WADE.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:WADE.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 16:53, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wade Keller
Okay, with the page semi-protected now most of your problems should be taken care of. I will still keep an eye on the page to make sure that everything continues to go smoothly. However, if you ever need my help with anything else, don't hesitate to send me a message. Trusilver 18:10, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Image:Staff06Wade2.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Image:Staff06Wade2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. hbdragon88 23:10, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Staff06Wade2.jpg listed for deletion
An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Staff06Wade2.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. hbdragon88 05:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, by direction of Wikimedia Foundation policy, the encyclopedia must be as free as possible. This image is clearly a promotional-like picture and is copyrighted to someone else. The non-free content criteria policy is very strict in regards when non-free images are to be used. If all ten criteria can be met, the image can be used. This image does not meet #1 of the criteria: a free equivalent could be made.
- If you want, you can try contacting the copyright holder and ask him or her if they would release the image under a free license. See Wikipedia:Example requests for permission for more details on that. hbdragon88 21:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] English help
Heyo,
I'm in the midst of a mediation where I believe there might be a misunderstanding of the English language.
Since you're registered as able to contribute on a pro. level of English [1] I figured I'll ask your input on the situation.
Start here and explore the page from there. [2]

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Browniemcghee.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Browniemcghee.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:58, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
