Talk:Magellan Navigation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think this article could be useful, but needs work. For example, I came here to see who the map data provider for magellan was - tele atlas or navteq - but the info isn't here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.83.83 (talk) 17:03, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Notes regarding initial article publication

I created this entry after doing a Wikipedia search for "Magellan." It turned up this Magellan (travel) page. I really think it should be listed as Magellan Navigation, but I created this entry here because it looks like someone wanted it to be this way on the Magellan disambiguation page.

There is also a Thales Navigation page, which was marked as advertising. Magellan Navigation is the successor to Thales Navigation.

I assure the Wikipedia community that I am in no way affiliated with Magellan, outside the fact that I own a couple of their GPS receivers.

I hope a more experienced Wikipedia contributor can assist with additional content and proper formatting.

Some of this, e.g., the product descriptions, reads more like corporate boilerplate, rather than an actual article.

I'm not inclined to do extensive cross checking, but this: "Maestro 4050 is the first portable vehicle navigation device to offer drivers the convenience of voice command capabilities" appears verbatim in a press release from AAA (http://www.aaanewsroom.net/Main/Default.asp?CategoryID=8&ArticleID=526). Cut-and-paste is not the same as writing. If this is what passes for an article, why not just put a link to the company website and be done with it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.40.60.135 (talk) 00:58, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Magellan crossover gps.jpg

Image:Magellan crossover gps.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
