Magrora

Magrora (Hindi:मगरोरा) is a town in Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh. It is situated at a distance of about 5 km from Dabra town, on Gwalior-Jhansi Road, in Gwalior district.

Magrora fort is situated on Naun River near the confluence of Naun and Sindh Rivers. The Magrora fort is seen on west of the road while one passes from Dabra to Jhansi.
It is a beautiful site to see the surrounding area from Magrora fort. There are two huge tanks in the fort for sustained water supply. There are three temples in the fort where regular worship takes place. The festival of holi starts from here.

Magrora fort was built by Maharaja Hamirjoodeo. Magrora state has been known for kind hearted rulers very popular amongst the public. Before the war with Mahadji Sindhia they were the rulers of Pichhore (Dabra). [1]
The Magrora state included Lohagarh, Magrora, Salvai, Patha, Ajaygarh ans Simaria garhis (forts). There were 25 garhis and 400 villages in this state. All these forts were built on high hillocks and well protected. After war with Mahadji Sindhia there was a treaty in which Pichhore ruler Maharaja Chhatra Singh was given the Magrora fort along with the title of Bahadur Joodeo. It was a free Jagir. The rulers of Magrora were later Swarup Singh, Jai Singh, Hem Singh, Bhagwat Singh, ram Singh and Mirendra Singh Joodeo. [2]
Magrora fort was occupied till 1954 after which Mirendra Singh Joodeo came to dabra and settled here. Mirendra Singh Joodeo ruled Magrora for 28 years. [3]
