[edit] Report of death
As a result of a special operation, the law enforcers eliminated active gang members closely linked to Shamil Basaev. So called emir of the wahhabi jamaat of the Sunzhensky region M. Khashiev and his three henchmen were killed in the skirmish, the Northern Caucasus Counter-Terrorist Regional Operations HQ told MVDinform.ru(Russian).
'On April 17, 2004, in the Sleptsovskaya stanitsa of the Republic of Ingushetia, the law enforcers laid siege to a house where four active gang members were hiding. The rebels offered armed resistance and were killed in retaliatory fire,' the press release published by the HQ says. As an HQ representative told our reporter, the killed bandits were closely linked to Shamil Basaev and jointly with Rusatm Ganiev, a now detained gang member, and Abubakar Vicimbaev, a S. Basaev's bodyguard who has been eliminated by the moment, recruited and trained girls from different regions of Chechnya to be suicide bombers.
One of those killed in Sleptsovskaya was identified as Magomed Khashiev, 26, known to certain circles as 'Sokhib' and 'Khattab'. When an emir of the wahhabi jamaat of the Sunzhensky region, he joined the gang of Kazbek Turazhiev and Batyr Ozdoev, who have been liquidated by now. M. Khashiev started his terrorist activities after he had been trained as a fighter in a Khattab's camp on the outskirts of Serzhen-Yurt, Shali region, Chechnya. The terrorist was the mastermind behind subversive-terrorist actions. He was implicated in the car bombing in September 2003 by the Office of the Federal Security Service for the Republic of Ingushetia situated in Magas. He had his hand in the explosion that occurred on the Nazran-Moscow train in October 2003 as well as in the terrorist attacks on the Caucasus road running through the region bordering the North Ossetia-Alania Republic. His accomplices murdered 3 MOI officers in Ingushetia three months ago.
They say that M. Khashiev always wore a 'Shakhid belt' when travelling in Chechnya and Ingushetia. However he enjoyed no respect of the Sunzhensky jamaat's rank-and-file members as he was arrogant and had pocketed money allocated by foreign extremist organisations.
Rebels who have been detained in Chechnya or Ingushetia say M. Khashiev had sexual liaisons with Abu-Dzeid, a notorious Arab mercenary who headed a gang operating in Ingushetia and followed instructions of Abu al-Valid and S. Basaev.
