Magnús Þór Hafsteinsson (born May 29, 1964) is an Icelandic MP and vice-chairman of the Liberal Party (Frjálslyndi flokkurinn).

Magnus is also a vice member of the Akranes town council on behalf of Frjalslyndi flokkurinn. One of his most noticable work this term has been his raging opposition against Akranes welcoming a group of 30 refugees, all of which are women and children. He has yet to back his stand on the matter with any empirical evidence. His opposition lead to a split in the Liberal party, and Karen Jonsdottir, their only representative in the town council, decided to join the Independence party.

This has been one of the most noticable matters in the Icelandic media after it's unfolding. It has been noted that Iceland has welcomed refugees before, and the communities that have welcomed them have been well cabable of doing so, although beeing smaller than Akranes.
