[edit] Episode recap
Jon goes into the closet and pulls out an old box of magic tricks because he has been asked to perform magic at the children's hospital. He demonstrates by asking Garfield to pick a card and then to have him guess it. After Jon fails to guess the card, he pulls out his magic props only to find a rabbit’s skeleton. He then looks for an all-night magic shop to buy some updated tricks.
Jon takes Garfield to Mr. Mystic’s magic shop, and Mr. Mystic soon takes Jon upstairs to show him other merchandise, leaving Garfield alone with his dog Merlin. After squirting Merlin in the face with a trick flower, Garfield leads him on a chase through the store. After they get mixed up in various magic tricks including sawing-a-woman-in-half and transforming each other into different creatures with a magic wand, Garfield breaks the wand, causing the whole room to fill up with smoke just as Mr. Mystic and Jon come back down with a handkerchief trick.
Jon finds Garfield through all the smoke and they leave while Mr. Mystic scolds Merlin about playing with the wand, especially because now Merlin has transformed into a giant elephant-like creature. Meanwhile, Jon decides that the handkerchief trick is too small to close his magic show with, and he asks Garfield what’s big and really surprising, and Garfield suggests himself, as he has transformed into a giant creature with wings that is changing color and size by the minute.
[edit] Notes
- When Garfield and Merlin are waving the magic wand, they are transformed into the following: Garfield turns Merlin into rat; rat turns Garfield into horse; horse turns rat into Odie; Odie turns horse into giant cat creature(?); giant cat creature turns Odie into Jon; Jon turns cat creature into a second Jon; second Jon turns first Jon into Mr. Mystic; Mr. Mystic turns second Jon back to Garfield; Garfield turns Mr. Mystic back to Merlin. (During the sequence, Merlin’s transformations are all wearing his hat.)
[edit] Quotes
Mr. Mystic: I know every trick except the one where you pull the top hat out of the rabbit.
Jon: Uh…don’t you mean pull a rabbit out of a top hat?
[Short pause]
Mr. Mystic: That’s why that trick never works.
[Garfield walks along the ceiling; Merlin follows suit]
Garfield: Excuse me; do you have real sharp claws?
Merlin: [Looks at his paws] Mm-mm.
Garfield: Well, you can’t do this then, can you?
[Merlin falls to the ground] Garfield: Boy, with some people you have to tell them everything.
Jon knocks door
Mr. Mystic:We're closed!
Jon knocks again
Jon: But your sign says you're open 24 hours.
Mr. Mystic: Yes but not all in a row!
