Magheraveely

Magheraveely (Irish: Machaire Mhílic) is a small village in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. In the 2006 Census it had a population of people 254 with a majority of 67% catholic inhabitants. It is within the Fermanagh District Council area.

Charles Irwin (1824-April 8, 1873) was born in Manorhamilton, County Leitrim and was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross. On 16 November 1857 at Lucknow, India, Private Irwin showed conspicuous bravery at the assault on the Secundra Bagh when, although severely wounded through the right shoulder, he was one of the first to enter the building under heavy fire. He is buried in Saint Mark's Churchyard, Magheraveely.

[edit] Crozier Family

Gortra House is situated midway between Magheraveely and Newtownbutler. The Family previously lived at Cloncarn and Springtown Co. Fermanagh.The original House stood to the side of the current Gortra House and in its day was surrounded by gardens and maany rodedendrums. For its site on the top of the hill a spectacular aray of view ere to be seen.

[edit] Family Vault

In the Graveyard on the edge of the Village is the Burial Vault of The Crozier Family of Gortra House. It was erected by John Crozier of Gortra House born 1765 died 1814 and contains the remains of that family till 1933, with the interment of John George Crozier. The Vault contains many coffins all in prefect state of preservation as at 2001. It is built of Stone and Brick with large steel doors.
