Magha (poet)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Magha (c. 8th century CE) was a Sanskrit poet who lived under King Varmalata in Srimala in present day Rajasthan state. Magha was son of Dattaka and grandson of Suprabha Deva. His Mahakavya Shishupala Vadha in 20 cantos is based on the Mahabharata episode of the slaying of the defiant king Shishupala by Krishna[1]Since his grandfather was clearly a Mag Brahmin,he belonged to the Indo-Iranian community of Brahmins presently known as Shakdvipi Brahmins.
