Maggy (Monica's Gang)

Maggy (original "Magali"), is a character of the popular Brazilian comic book series Monica's Gang. Maggy has her own comic book, in which there are also stories of her cat, Vanilla. Maggy is six years old, although in rare occasions she is described as a seven-year-old girl. Maggy is Monica's best friend, and one of the few characters that Monica never beats, except sometimes when Maggy accidentally is punished, as when Monica throws her rabbit toy, Samson, but misses the target and hits Maggy. She wears only a yellow dress and, like Monica and Smudge, she walks barefoot, exposing her feet without toes. In the 399th edidion it is shown that Maggy is a left-handed person.[citation needed]
Maggy is recognised for her voracious and superhuman appetite. She eats almost everything, and in an incredible speed. Her favorite food is watermelon.

[edit] 'Dona Lili'
Maggy's mother. She loves the cat Vanilla and always spoils her daughter, although she reproves Maggy's superhuman appetite. Her mother is called 'Gertrudes'.
[edit] Mister 'Paulinho'
Mister 'Paulinho', sometimes known as 'Carlito', is Maggy's father. He is called by Vanilla "the annoying person of the house', for Mister Paulinho is allergic to Vanilla's hair and is always saying that Vanilla is useless. His mother is called 'Cota'.
[edit] Vanilla (Mingau)
Maggy's cat pet. He's spoiled like his owner, but he does not have Maggy's same appetite. Intelligent, smart, he provides a bit more life to Maggy's house, with his feline grace and elegance. Everyone loves him, except for Maggy's father, because he is allergic to cat's hair. He behaves exactly like a cat, and has often "outbreaks", that shown his wild feline inside him. He also loves to attack cockroaches, flies, mouses, small birds, and other imprudent creatures that appear in the house. On his first appearances he didn't have a name and Captain Fray tried to 'adopt' him in the very episode where the name 'Mingau' was introduced, only to learn he's allergic to cats.

Five Cats, Vanilla's siblings that appear very occasionally. The first story of 1994 tells the fate of each kitten, because all were born in the same litter: Matthew, the adventurer, has become cat on board of a fishing boat; Nestor, the bohemian, has become feral cat; Rita, the worker, has become a farm hunter cat; Lili, the spoiled, has become a madam's cat; Percival, the strange, has become witch cat; and Vanilla has gone to Maggy's house.
The Cats appear very rarely, and it is recorded their appearance in only three stories.[citation needed]

Junior is Maggy's four-years-old little friend (although sometimes he's known as her cousin). Different from Maggy, he hates to eat, and he wants to eat nothing or almost nothing. His mother supplicates for him to eat. For his lucky... or for Maggy's lucky, it is she who always help him to eat the food that his mother makes. But usually is she that will ate everything. Beyond that, Junior is always wanting to play with the older kids, but as he's too young, they usually avoid play with him, what makes him furious sometimes. He usually is afraid of cats, specially Vanilla.

Junior's parents. They are always trying to make their son eat, by the most different means.
[edit] Toddy (Quinzinho)
He's from Portugal, son of the baker of the neighborhood. He's in love with Maggy, and makes everything for her: bread, cake and other foods. But his father doesn't like too much of Maggy, due to her voracious appetite, and she ates everything in the bakery usually without paying, before he could sell the foods. But Quinzinho's father usually forgives her. Quinzinho's real name is 'Joaquim'. Quinzinho is his nickname because it's a diminutive form of Joaquim.
[edit] Aunt Nina (Tia Nena)
Sheis Maggy's aunt. Nina owns a candy shop, but in some stories she owns a restaurant. Nina is a wonderful cooker, and also enjoys spending time with magic and wizard-related experiences.
