Maggie Wilderotter was born in Neptune, New Jersey. She was civics oriented and when she entered Junior High School she often sat at the city council. Maggie always wanted to be in business, so she took up electives in high school to get herself office jobs instead of working in a fast food joints and candy shops.[1]

Maggie Wilderotter has studied a variety of subjects which include Arts, Science, English and Math. She earned her degree from College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, Massachusetts. She studied Economics and Business Administration. She is still actively involved with the college and is also a member of the board of trustees.

Her first permanent job was with CableData. Through the 12 years of her stay in CableData, she held 14 different positions. She then served as Senior VP of McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. She then joined AT&T Wireless Services Inc. as Executive VP of National Operations and grew to be CEO of AT&T's Aviation Communications Division. She left to become CEO of Wink Communications Inc. for six years. She joined Microsoft and served as Senior VP of Worldwide Public Sector. Currently, Maggie Wilderotter serves as Chairman and CEO of Citizens Communications.

Maggie Wilderotter has received various awards from National Cable Television Association (NCTA) for her contributions to the television industry. She received the 1999 Outstanding Mentor Award from the Women in Cable and Telecommunications Foundation and its Top 10 Women in Cable & Telecommunications Award in 1989.
