Magesh Panchanathan

Magesh Panchanathan is the twelfth chess grandmaster from India, becoming one after tying for the first place in the $180,000 33rd World Open chess event at Philadelphia on July 4, 2005. Panchanathan scored 7.5 points from nine rounds in the 204 player event obtaining his third and final International Grandmaster norm. He earned his first GM norm by winning the Asian Junior Championship in Sri Lanka in 2003. He completed his second norm at Bar in Serbia just months earlier at the 6th Open International Chess Championship of Montenegro, March 4-12th, 2005.

Born in 1983 in the Indian city of Madurai, Magesh Panchanathan is currently a Graduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas.
