Magerit

Magerit is the name of the second most powerful computer in Spain, according to the TOP500 list of supercomputers. This computer is installed in CeSViMa, Computer Science Faculty of the Technical University of Madrid.
Magerit was installed in 2006 and reached the 9th fastest in Europe and the 34th in the world[1]. In the first quarter of 2007, it was upgraded and joined the Spanish Supercomputing Network.
Magerit is the ancient name of the current city of Madrid. The name means something like "lot of water".

[edit] Architecture
Magerit is a cluster of 1200 nodes eServer BladeCenter JS20 under a SLES9 Operating System. Each node has two processors IBM PowerPC single-core 970FX (64 bits) with 2.2 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of local hard disk. The system has a distributed storage system with 65 TB of capacity.
All the nodes are interconnected with a low latency and high bandwidth network called Myrinet and two auxiliary Ethernet networks for administration task.

Magerit process batch jobs with high computing needs, like investigations about the universe, simulations of materials or climate models. These jobs are organized by a queue manager.
The system has two different types of access:
- Via CeSViMa, filling the forms on the CeSViMa web page.
- Via Spanish Supercomputing Network. The access committee evaluates all the projects and can assign resources in Magerit.
