Magda Trocmé
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Magda Trocmé (1901 – October 10, 1996) was the wife of Andre Trocmé. She was born Magda Grilli in Florence, Italy. They had seven children and lived in the Hugenot town of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon where Andre was the Protestant Pastor. When Nazis were capturing Jews to transport them to death camps, Magda, her husband, and other townspeople hid Jewish people in the woods and farms surrounding their village, saving thousands (mostly children) over the course of the war/occupation.
In 1971, she and her husband were recognized by the Israeli Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations for their work in rescuing Jews, an honor that would be extended to their entire town in 1990.
