Two Magic: The Gathering cards. © Wizards of the Coast.

Cropped and rearranged version of User:Andrew Levine's Image:MagicCards.jpg.

I, Lowellian, assert that the use of this image in the article Magic: The Gathering sets on Wikipedia falls under fair use under United States copyright law because:

  1. The images of these two cards are used to illustrate the game, to inform, and to comment on them. They are used to demonstrate:
    1. the exact location of the set symbol on cards, and its position relative to other elements on cards
    2. through an example, how set symbols of two distinct sets differ, as seen on a card rather than in isolation
    3. through an example, how set symbols of two different rarities differ, as seen on a card rather than in isolation
  2. The reproduction of the images here in no way infringes on the ability of the copyright holder (Wizards of the Coast), nor the retailers who deal directly with consumers, to sell the physical cards pictured and profit from the game.
  3. The images are scanned at a lower resolution than the real-life pictures of the cards.
  4. The images of the cards pictured here are widely distributed and are visible in many places on the Internet, and the copyright holder has historically tolerated this online reproduction of unaltered images of such cards.
