[edit] Maeve O'Boyle
[1]Maeve O'Boyle was born on Tuesday the 6th of October 1987, in The Rotten-row Maternity Hospital Glasgow, referred to as the “Rock 'n' Roll Hospital of Glasgow” by Maeve in a recent interview. She initially lived in Royston with her Mum, Dad and Brother, before moving to Stepps a little more North of the city. She attended a secondary school within North Lanarkshire and was actively involved in Music and The Arts, attending various musical and theatrical organisations. These included Cumbernauld Youth Theatre and North Lanarkshire Chorus.
[edit] Early Years 11-18
[2]Maeve has sited these years as the most influential of her life so far, stating that this was when she herself really discovered her “potential”. At thirteen years old Maeve began writing songs, initially only as a way of expressing herself in the pressure filled environment of her secondary school, but these songs soon became much more, when a family friend offered to record and produce a four track E.P.
At this point Maeve turned her attention to her solo career and recorded her second solo E.P “The Morning Sessions”. This set of recordings again were never officially released but acted as complimentary tracks, distributed to pod casts and venue promoters. Throughout 2005 Maeve began to focus more seriously on her career as well as choosing to study at North Glasgow College for a HND in Music Performance. This year she gained a support slot with childhood hero Eleanor McEvoy as well as achieving worldwide exposure through the phenomenon of pod-casting. Her success within the Pod-casting community led to Maeve being invited to sing on a Christmas Charity Single for U.N.I.C.E.F.
In January 2006, Maeve won the “Danny” at Celtic Connections, an award that recognises new and emerging talent...
[edit] 2006-2007
[3]Maeve's success at Celtic Connections led her to be invited to play at numerous “fringe” events including one at Terminal Music Glasgow. Maeve was invited to play on the afternoon of Saturday the 21st of January. She played her award winning set and was getting ready to leave the bar, when she was encouraged to stay and play again at night. That night her set was watched by Scottish music mogul John McLaughlin, who had been “tipped off” about Maeve's talent and had come down to the bar to see for himself. John offered to manage Maeve immediately stating in an interview shortly after discovering her “She is the best raw talent I have heard in fifteen years, and the first time I’ve directly approached someone to manage them” . From here Maeve went on to win The Daily Records National Talent Search and became endorsed by Freshman Guitars. [4]In March and October 2006 Maeve opened for Sandi Thom on her Sold Out UK tour and began working with Scottish Legend Ricky Ross ( Deacon Blue, James Blunt) . Ross also invited Maeve to guest on his BBC Program and his “an audience with”. Over the course of 2006 Maeve started recording and writing her debut album with producer Gordy Goudie, and continued to perform across Scotland. Towards the end of 2006 Maeve was listed in The Daily Records Hot 100 and the Scotsman's Scotswomen to watch. She rapidly gathered label interest and critical acclaim for her energetic live performances.
[5]In January 2007 Maeve returned to Celtic Connections after being invited to open for John Cale at Glasgow's legendary ABC. In February 2007, after a year of development, Maeve was signed to X-Phonics records.
[6]Maeve continues to receive critical acclaim and is currently putting the finishing touches to her long awaited and highly anticipated debut album, due for release in 2008. The biggest names in media and music are tipping this 20 year old Glaswegian for great things...
