Madhesia's (Baniya Kanu) in india are mostly in the eastern parts of the country like in eastern UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Aasam. Traditionaly they are good sweetmakers. They workship their own god known as Baba Ganinath. They have their own customs and traditions. Usually they like to marry in their own caste, but meanwhile they check mool's of each others if the mool's matches same the marriage will not be eligible.
They use title as GUPTA , SAU, SHAW, SAH and some use as KANU also , they are spreded all over in the country as well as in the entire world , many of them are highly educated person , they speak BHOJPURI language .

The settlement of Basantpur (Bihar) in 1893 tells that at that time it had approximately sixteen hundred inhabitants who were engaged principally in trade and only nominally in cultivation. More than 50 percent of its population—consisting of Madhesia Kandus (31 percent) rest others — can be identified as traders.
In 1917, The standard market of Basantpur (Bihar) counted 175 families, most of whom were engaged in trade and only a few nominally in cultivation. Of these, the principal families involved in trade were 7 Rauniar families, 5 Rastogi families dealing in cloth, 2 Barawar families in the spice trade, 20 Kalwar families, and 56 Madhesia Kandu families in grain, spices, and minor articles.
