[edit] Notable Cheerleading Squads
Some notable cheer squads would be teams or programs that contributed to the evolution from the old fashioned cheerleaders from the late 1900s to the highly skilled competitive squads today.
[edit] Paul Lawrence Dunbar
Paul Lawrence Dunbar is a high school with an exceptional cheer squad. With their own reality show, Cheerleader Nation, they have because a well-known and wildly popular team. They have won UCA nationals the past 3 years. They have high standards for try-outs on their teams.
[edit] Cheer Athletics
Cheer Athletics is an all-star squad, and the largest in the world. With 8 medals from the USASF worlds, twice as many as any other gym, and hundreds of local and national competition medals. Cheer Athletics is currently the largest gym in the United States.
[edit] History
Cheer Athletics was founded in 1994 by Angela Rogers and Jody Melton in Plano, TX, with the goal to "build the largest, most prestigious all-star program in the country." Cheer Athletics won its first national title in Spring of 1995.
[edit] Teams
They currently have 14 teams, ranging in age from 5 and under to 18 and under. They have 4 coed teams, and 5 level 5 teams, the highest level allowed for athletes under 17. They also have 4 teams who have taken home gold medals from the World Championships. Alumni from Cheer Athletics have gone to cheer for many colleges, including the award winning University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Hawaii Pacific University, Stephen F. Austin State University, and Texas State University, which are all of the top five Cheer Xs list of Top Collegiate Programs.[1] [2]

They have received much publicity, and have been in various documentaries such as Discovery Channel Documentary, Discovery Health Channel Documentary, ESPN Cheerleading Documentary, and HBO Inside Sports. They have also been featured in American Cheerleader Magazine, All-star Cheer Magazine, Inside Cheerleading Magazine, Texas Cheerleader Magazine, and Cheer Dance Drill Magazine 2004.

The Kentucky Elite Showcats were the first ever special needs cheerleading team.
