now the status is proposed, according to the emporis website.

"However it would not overtake the Magnolia Tension-leg Platform, an oil rig under construction in the Gulf of Mexico, which at 1,430 m will be the world's tallest structure." Is a tension leg platform really considered a structure, including the legs? They're basically wires going down to the bottom. Would that mean that a balloon with 1431m wire tether would be the world's largest structure?
I've copied part of a discussion about the Magnolia Tension-leg Platform from Talk:List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_in_the_world#Mars_Platform.3F -

TLP's definitely don’t qualify. They are floating structures. And if you would want to include floating structures, there are deeper moored spar's and semi-submersibles. BoH 03:31, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

If we're not considering floating structures, why is the Petronius Platform being mentioned? Is the Petronius Platform a floating structure? The article mentions that only 75 metres is above water. --Jibran1 17:30, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Petronius is a compliant tower, which is not floating. The tower fully supports the deck. BoH 19:23, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

This looks like the Agency Tower from Crackdown!

[edit] Conflicting Details Between Tallest Building Article and Madinat al-Hareer Article.

In the Tallest Building article it has a proposed height of 1,500m while in this article it says 1,001m. Someone please fix this, and put the real one on both pages.

[edit] Burj Mubarak Tower Groundbreaking and Completion

Hi, I have noticed for quite some time that it says that the Burj Mubarak tower will ground break in 2008 and finish in 2011, or 2012. What evidence or source is there for this claim? How can a 1,001 meter building be built is 3 years? You can see the much smaller Burj Dubai took 5 years to build, so how can this much larger building be built by 2011, 2012?Maldek (talk) 20:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

The lead paragraph says: "As of this time, it is unclear as to the scope of this project, if it has received any approvals, or if it has the required funding; however, the city will be built in individual phases with total completion within twenty-five years. The development will cost an estimated 25 billion Kuwaiti Dinars (86.1 billion USD). Burj Mubarak al-Kabir ..."
This is supported by a following the link to the official site, choosing "News Clipping", then the latest link to this article in arabianbusiness.com from November 2007. The article goes on to say "There is no indication yet as to when construction will begin"
The 2008 start date and 2011-12 end dates are probably based on information from one of the other sources which could easily be out of date by now.
If you are interested where those dates came from, check out the cited sources. If you want to update the article seek out newer data from a reliable source but please remember to cite your source (with <ref>[http://...]</ref> or take a look at other articles to see how sources are cited). I have a few questions because for the past few years I have noticed talk about building some buildings. Could anyone answer these questions for me?

What year was the Burj Dubai orginally proposed? What year was the Al Burj originally proposed? What year was the Burj Mubark originally proposed? What year was the Murjan City Tallest Tower orginally proposed? What year was the Mile High Tower originally proposed?

I would greatly appreciate it if somebody told me because I think Al Burj was proposed in 2004, but I am not sure about the other buildings. I don't know how long ago these buildings were proposed, or what year they were orginally proposed in. Does anybody know?Maldek (talk) 19:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I think Burj Dubai was orignally proposed in 2003. See the Wired magazine source mentioned in this talk page discussion. Astronaut (talk) 22:08, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
