I don't know if anyone has noticed, but when the group land on the island and Alex and Marty run towards each other, Marty says : Oh Sugar honey iced tea, which, has any interesting acronym... I don't know if this is relevant, or needed, so feel free to add it or ignore it.

[edit] The Animals Made a Mistake...

Being a San Diegan myself, I noticed the animals' mistake...which might be intented. They say that the San Diego Zoo has wide open exhibits-they're actually describing the San Diego Wild Animal Park, a very close relative to the Zoo. And Shamu...he's from Seaworld, not the Zoo. Of course, Alex doesn't realize that..

He is a species of giant mouse lemur known as Mirza zaza, -- scientific name Microcebus lehilahytsara. It has a long bushy tail and is about the size of a grey squirrel.

Thank you. Would you add this info into the article? How did you find out anyway? Now I tried to google on 'madagascar "Mirza zaza" Mort' but nothing relevant turned up. It is little bigger than a mouse, with short, rounded ears and a white stripe on its nose. " Mort fits the description to a T. I looked it up without using his name -- it missleads the search-engine. [edit] Question about the Animals' Voices

I'd like to ask if or if not the humans in the movie Madagascar can actually hear the animals when they attempt to talk to them; because it may seem like a goof that the officer on horseback in the movie can't hear his horse giving directions to Marty the Zebra! --195.229.241.180 13:09, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Don't forget the part when Alex makes an attempt to find Marty by calling humans. Alex is speaking real words, but when they put the view on the humans there are lion roars coming out of the reciever.

The penguins were not stowed away on board. (When using stowed as 'To hide oneself aboard a conveyance in order to obtain free transportation.') I reworded it to show that they were also being shipped to Kenya (why penguins would be shipped to Kenya is beyond me but after viewing the film again, the box that the penguins are in says Penguins and has a shipping lable to the wildlife preserve in Kenya). Also Alex is concerned about himself rather than the group when facing the celebrity status of Shamu. --ImmortalGoddezz 22:26, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

"Madagascar is considered one of the worst films of 2005 according to the International Ratings of Filming Trust (IRFT)."

This seems a little out-of-nowhere; I've done searches on this 'IRFT' and got no results, or anything even resembling them... even the name sounds like it's not resembling any real organization. Is it really notable at all?

Since the spelling of this word keeps getting changed between the actual animal (fossa) and the spelling used in the movie (foosa), let's just make a template. That way, when someone wants to change the spelling, they'll only have to change it in the template and they'll get all of the wording in one fell swoop. Any objections? No, the actual animal is "fossa" as well. The movie simply pronounces the word as "foosa", but I don't think this is correct. Dora Nichov 04:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

While tagging some articles I found King Julian. As that article is linkless, and it doesn't seem to be notable to have its own article, I suggest merging any valuable content here. Someone who is in touch with this article and knows the importance of the character should be able to decide if that article has something to offer that has not been said here. There's really no point in having a separate King Julian article unless is says something other than character ID. The inaccuracies section should be deleted; it's totally superfluous, like pointing out that lions can't talk, penguins don't normally carry lit sticks of dynamite, and zebras as a matter of course don't set up cabana bars. Is Alex's acid trip accurate? Was there enough snow on the ground in Antarctica? You would be correct if this were an article about the animal called fossa. However, this is an article about the film Madagascar. We should document that this film spells the name of the animal incorrectly, but then state that the spelling in this article is going to use that as used in the film. Same as Val42 and, the sign says "BEWARE OF FOOSA" in the movie. If the correct spelling of foosa is fossa, that doesn't mean the sign said "BEWARE OF FOSSA" rather than "BEWARE OF FOOSA". (note: I already changed the article to say "BEWARE OF FOOSA".)--168.103.242.193 16:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

I reverted the vandalism as well as the "foosa" change. Reading the fossa (animal) article, it seems obvious this is the animal intended to be portrayed in the film. I, too, remember seeing a sign that read "BEWARE OF FOOSA"; but I would take this as comedic license indicating the indigenous lemurs can't spell. I can remember many cartoons that portray misspelled signs that have been created by the creatures/animals in the cartoon; it would never be assumed that a misspelled sign was meant legitimately to infer a completely different meaning than the properly spelled word -- simply that our characters can't spell. — pd_THOR | =/\= | 19:43, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

It seems I am getting into a editfight with someone about the section of popculture references. This is not my intention, my goals are sincere and I will explain here why I deleted some of the adds.

Just because the IMdB has them listed as references does not mean they are intented. See where I'm getting at? The IMdB doesn't have any sources either, so to say that they are listed on that website does not mean they are needed here.

I hope I made myself clear. If there are any conflicts, I suggest we take it up to resolving disputes. WP:DR

I removed the IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes ratings. The mention of mixed reviews (along with popular appeal and box office take) should be enough--there's no need to include info from other sites which is subject to change anyway, right? Maxrandom777 02:13, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I put the reviews back in for three reasons: they are not subject to change, vaguely saying "mixed reviews" does not give the reader of the article an accurate picture of the film's standing, and the review information has remained unchanged since the article was created, so I see no reason to delete it now. I took this off the main page because it seems ridiculous to point out these facts in an animated film. "Chimpanzees aren't monkeys"? "A giraffe can't bend its neck in every direction"? They also can't speak English and sing "I Like to Move It, Move It," but it's called suspension of disbelief!   • Fossa do not hunt in packs.
  • Lemur troops are usually led by a female.
  • Lemurs don't form multi-species troops.
  • Hummingbirds don't live in Madagascar.
  • Saguaro cactuses are not found in Madagascar.
  • The nearest current to Madagascar tends to flow in a counterclockwise direction, so in real life Marty, Melman, Alex, and Gloria, would end up in either Pakistan or India.
  • A giraffe cannot bend its neck in every direction. If one tried, it would break its neck.
  • Adelie penguins don't live in Africa. This was mentioned by Skipper and is probably a joke.
  • The Central Park Zoo does not own or house lions, giraffes, zebras or hippopotamuses. To see these animals in New York City visitors have to visit the Bronx Zoo instead.
  • Chimpanzees aren't monkeys.
  • There are no restrooms in in that area on the downtown 4,5,6 Lexingtion line subway station.

Two IP addresses (possibly the same editor) have added "notable roles" to the cast information and I've removed this both times. If anyone wants to know what the actors have also appeared in, they can check the articles about the actors. It's information overload to include in that table other films that they have appeared in. The choice of other work could be controversial, with different editors disagreeing about which other films should be mentioned. Oh, and the formatting was wrong... [edit] Suggestion of alternate reference

In the "Allusions and parody" section, I do not agree with the proposed reference (second to last) about the line "It's been a pleasure serving with you, boys"... I believe this line is a reference to the film Titanic, when the musicians are playing during evacuation of the boat and must stop because of the high raising level of the water "Gentlemen.
