[edit] Tank

The section about Bobby Lee's character 'Tank' was in need of some improvement, mainly grammatical. But the last sentence seems a bit incoherent to me -

'He is a loser who gets a date so he tries to pick up girls outside clubs and impress them with his car.'

It should be noted that I'm not all that familliar with this character. However, here are my points: First off, although we are talking about a fictional character, and calling him a 'looser' may not be at all unprecedented, In my opinion it's a formulation to be avoided, due to neutral point-of-view issues. Second, I find the sentence a bit contradictory. If there is reason to refer to him as a looser, would he have a date? And if he did, would he have need to impress girls outside of clubs?

Can someone please clear this up? --GSchjetne 17:42, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Antonia's Cat

is it, indeed, Cece? or is it Fifi? Whateley23 04:52, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's Cece. --DrBat 14:32, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Since my uncle is deaf, he had to have the captions on, and it has been noted that it was spelled both ways, but I've even seen it being spelled Cici. Edwardw818 23:18, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Swan's ethnicity

I always thought Miss Swan was Korean. "Kuvaria", the way she pronounced it, seems to sound like "Korea" (to me, at least).

Iirc, the character is largely based on Koreans. It might have specifically been a relative, or hair stylists... I don't rememeber. But she explains it on an episode of Loveline. It's probably somewhere on the internet.70.66.9.162 08:45, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

This has been the subject of many debates, with the asian community taking offense to her character + the beauty & nail salon BUT they have many many times indicated that the ms Swan character is based 1/2 on Alex's own grandmother and 1/2 on BJORK THE SINGER - thus Iceland... it has nothing to do with asian, and with the iceland connection, her character, looks, and accent becomes more clear. there is also a show where she meets her father and he is italian and with connections to the mob. Also she does not work as a manicurist, she OWNS the beauty salon, also seen on a show where she is going away, and she gets a guy to take care of the salon. The reference to swan 1/2 grandma and 1/2 bjork, is at alex's site

[edit] Lorraine

I think the popularity of Mo Collin's lorraine Swanson character, I think the character deserves a paragraph or two, what do you think? --mike 17:12, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cabana Chat Episode 318

There's a guy that Phyllis Diller brings out as a surprise for Dixie's new poolboy, but I was wondering the actor's name. Phyllis Diller says to Dixie: "He's mute, but I feed him oysters!" Was just wondering if there was a way to find out that actor's name.

[edit] Where's Stuart Larkin?

Where's Stewert? That is probably the most famous recurring character on the show. Michael McDonald is most famous for Stewert. He even joked about it when he went to entertain the troops with Kathy Griffin, he said something like "It's amazing that all I do for a living is put on a blonde wig, bush, and act like a five-year old."--BrianGriffin-FG 20:39, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, for some reason didn't see his part of the artical or his pic. My mistake.--BrianGriffin-FG 23:53, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bunifa's Twin

Hey, um...... I have a question. A while ago I saw a Bunifa sketch where I think she was trying to return a pair of shoes to the store. She argues with the cashier a while and then her twin comes out. She looks just like Bunifa and her name is similar. I don't really remember it, but I think her first name is "Botesha" and her last name is "Johnson" and her friend is "Tanya". If anyone has seen this sketch, could you please tell me her full name and, if it's worth mentioning, add it to the article? Thanks. 209.214.201.145 03:44, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stuart's middle name

I noticed a "citation needed" mark next to the statement that Stuart's middle name is Douglas. It is indeed revealed to be Douglas in one skit. Not sure if this is a reliable source, but here it is (go to 00:47):

[edit] Leona Campbell (Stephnie Weir)

I don't know enough of the background of the character, but she has appeared many times (and is one of my favorites). I'll check around and see if I can find some sources. Lawikitejana 16:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Image:Stuartmother.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Fan site

This page goes into a great deal of detail, and seems to be in the kind of area covered by WP:FAN. The lists of situations or episodes in which various characters are featured are particularly noticeable as indiscriminate collections of information, but many of the character descriptions are just overkill: lots of anecdotes about what so-and-so said to such-and-such. I think the article would be better off with more tightly-written descriptions that steer clear of simply recounting parts of sketches. I've added the fansite template until this is improved.

(Some copy-editing would help too, especially in the section on Marvin Tikvah.)

[edit] Please be clear and concise when adding info to this entry

I've been working on various sections of the mammoth MADtv entry for several weeks, and I keep encountering the same problems--i.e., fan site jargon that sounds lifted from Entertainment Tonight, excruciatingly long lists of trivia, and painfully unclear writing. Anyone should be able to understand what an entry means, even if they rarely or never watch the show.

Here's an example of unclear writing in the section on the Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority skit:

"In several sketches, they attempt to 'help' less popular girls, but their help backfires (for example, when giving a makeover to an unattractive girl, they will probably (emphasis mine) throw away her "geek stuff", such as schoolbooks, musical instruments, or even cherished family heirlooms."

Okay, I didn't see this episode. So I'm wondering, did they or didn't they throw away the girl's stuff? Did this incident really happen in a skit, or is it just made up from whole cloth? Am I the only one to see the madness in using an example like this to illustrate a point?

To summarize: be clear, goddammit! Be concise and exact when adding information to this entry--it's already more cluttered than Britney Spears' mind. Kinkyturnip (talk) 05:45, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Dixiewet.JPG

The image Image:Dixiewet.JPG is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.
