Coordinates: 10°29′N 79°24′E / 10.48, 79.4 Madukkur is a Panchayat town in Thanjavur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a small town situated in southern part of Tamil Nadu. It is 11 km from Pattukkottai. It is surrounded with number of villages. Being in the Cauvery River Delta Area the inhabitants’ main occupation is agriculture. The new generation is well educated and they work in foreign countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, UK and USA. The economy is booming in line with India’s rapid economic development. Recently a new school called The Western Matriculation School opened to give education of the highest standard to children.

Madukkur is located at 10.48° N 79.4° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 3 metres (9 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Madukkur had a population of 15,171. Males constitute 47% of the population and females 53%. Madukkur has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 67%. In Madukkur, 12% of the population is under 6 years.

Madukkur is historically an old region which has old Hindu temples around the villages like Kylaya Nathar temple Alathur.

Most people belong to the Musuguntha Vellalar with considerable number of Kallar, Thevar or Mutharayar castes. There is a significant number of Chettyars, vellanchettiars, komatis, vaniya Chettiars and Muslims living in the township area.

There is a coconut research station at Veppangulam which is run by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore .
