Madonna 1983 - 1989 is a promotional-only greatest hits compilation CD by pop singer Madonna, released in September 1989 by Warner Music Japan. It was only available in Japan. It was re-issued with a different tracklisting in May 1990 and renamed Madonna 1983 - 1990.

[edit] Album history

It was compiled as a 15-track CD to DJs and retailers which covered six years of hit singles from the albums Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, Who's That Girl and Like a Prayer. The back cover artwork featured a photograph from Like a Prayer album sleeve.

With the huge success of the 1990 single "Vogue" (from the new album I'm Breathless) and the Blond Ambition Tour, Warner Music Japan re-packaged and re-compiled the tracklisting to include "Vogue" and "Keep It Together" replacing "Into the Groove" and "Crazy for You". It was re-released in May 1990 under the new title Madonna 1983 - 1990. The back cover featured a still from the "Oh Father" music video.

Both CDs have become highly collectable and today are selling for $400-500 when limited copies are available for sale.
