Madison Marathon

The Madison Marathon (Madison, Wisconsin) is an annual marathon foot-race run over a 26.2 mile course through the city of Madison.
Race day events also include a half marathon, a 10K race, and a 5K race.

Nearly 5,000 people participated in the 2006 events on a sweltering hot day that began with the start of the marathon at 7:30 when the temperature was already 75 degrees, 20 degrees above average.
The course was officially scheduled to close at 2:30, but was instead shut down at 12:45 when the temperature exceeded 90 degrees. This resulted in hundreds of runners being shut out by not receiving finishing times, but they were still awarded finishers medals if they completed the race.
Event officials later decided to give credit to finishers who completed the course after the clock had been turned off by adding their names to a "Marathon - finishers after course closure" list and by estimating their finishing times.
The top male finisher was Joe Kurian, a 27-year-old Ph.D. student in toxicology at the University of Wisconsin, with a time of 2:41:47, while Kelley Hess, a 22-year-old University of Wisconsin graduate student in astronomy, won the female marathon in a time of 3:24:50.

Race organizers announced that for the 2007 event, the race would officially revert to its original name, the Madison Marathon from Mad City Marathon.[1]
