The Madhav Institute of Technology & Science, Gwalior (formerly Madhav Engineering College, Gwalior), commonly known as MITS-Gwalior or MITS-G, is a major college of engineering in Gwalior, India.

Madhav Institute of Technology and Science was established in 1957 by His Highness Late Sir Jiwaji Rao Scindia, Maharaja, Erstwhile state of Gwalior with the prime objective of providing Technical Education at undergraduate and post graduate levels along with conducting research activities. The foundation stone of the Institute was laid by Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India on 20th October, 1956 and the building was inaugurated on 11th December, 1964 by Late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. The current president of the governing body is Maharaja Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is also a Member of Parliament.

MITS Gwalior is located on Race Course Road, Gwalior. The longitudinal campus of 47 acres is surrounded by the other educational institutions such as the LNIPE(Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education) and College of Agriculture, Gwalior.
The inside of the campus resembles a well planned city with gardens, lawns and wide clean roads. The campus has its own water supply and backup electricity supply. The overall MITS campus is divided into two main zones:
- Student & Faculty Residential Zone
- Academic Zone that includes department offices, lecture theaters, libraries and workshops.
The student residential zone is divided into two main sectors --one for men's hostels and another for women's hos.
There are, in total, 5 hostels (3 for men and 2 for women). All the hostels are named For Men-- Block 1, Block 2, Block 3 and For Women-- Block 4 and Block 5. Each hostel has a capacity of around 112 students though some hostels can house 200 students. However the women's hostels have a much smaller capacity. Each hostel has its own mess, a table tennis room, a common room where residents can watch television and read magazine and newspapers and a visiting room where residents can receive their guests.
[edit] Student Activity Center
The Student Activity Center is a part of the Academic Zone in MITS Gwalior. The Student Activity Center is mainly intended for extra-curricular activities of the students. The SAC consists of a gymnasium, three squash courts, a music room, two Tennis Courts, a fibre glass basketball court, Cricket ground and a Volleyball court.

MITS Gwalior has 10 departments. A department usually focuses on a single engineering stream or science discipline. Each department has its own administration structure with the Head of the Department (HoD) at the top of it. The HoD heads the department for a period of two years after which a new head is appointed. Each department offers a program (at the undergraduate or post-graduate level), some departments such as Electronics, Computer Science and IT, offer three or more undergraduate level programs and some departments collaborate with each other to offer a joint program.

MITS Gwalior is best known for its undergraduate program that include the Bachelor of Engineering program. It also offers postgraduate level programs like Master of Engineering, Master of Science, Master of Science (Research). Finally it also offers a Ph.D. program. The admission criteria for all these programs is different at the entry level. Throughout its history MITS Gwalior has produced outstanding engineers and scientists through these programs.

MITS Gwalior offers a Bachelor of Engineering in 8 different major areas that include Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology Engineering, Bio-technology Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Admissions are through the entrance examinations AIEEE and MP-PET which are organized by CBSE and VYAPM respectively.
[edit] Post-Graduate Programs
The institute offers post graduate level programs in every department of Engineering that exists in the institute with varied areas of specialization. There are a number of inter-disciplinary programs also available. The list grows so huge that it would be unwise to enumerate it here. The admission criteria for the post graduation programs vary from one program to other and are the subject matter of the concerned department(s). At postgraduate level, the admissions are on the basis of GATE. Admissions to the Master of Computer Applications course is done on the basis of MP-MCA examination
[edit] Administration controversy
Of late the institute has been in news for infamous reasons.Prof. P.S. Bisen who has earlier contributed significantly in providing new look and vision to the institute as a director(2000-2003)was reappointed as the director by Highcourt in February 2007 after winning a lawsuit. This was met with strong resistance from the governing body who snached all the financial and administrative powers from the director as well as sacked the secretary Mr. D.B.Singh.The matter is still subjudice.
An era in the history of the Institute ended when Er.D.B.Singh passed away on 26.4.2008.
