Madeleine Mitchell is a British violinist specializing in late romantic and contemporary classical music. She has had music composed specifically for her by such composers as Brian Elias, Stuart Jones, James MacMillan, Stephen Montague, Michael Nyman, Nigel Osborne, Anthony Powers, and John Woolrich.
She served from 1985-1987 as the leader of Peter Maxwell Davies's performing group, The Fires of London. In 1992, she was briefly a member of the Michael Nyman Band and appeared in that capacity in Volker Schlöndorff's concert film, The Michael Nyman Songbook, although she did not perform on the eponymous album, which was recorded the previous year.
In 2005, she released an album of music written for her titled In Sunlight, with pianist Andrew Ball.
