Made of Steel is a single released by alternative rock band Our Lady Peace from their album Gravity in 2002. The lyrics are sung by lead singer Raine Maida and the song quickly became a popular hit both in Canada and the United States.
Sam Raimi, director of the 2002 film Spider–Man, has been quoted to say that he found this song a perfect fit to represent the Spider-Man series. Unfortunately, the song Hero by Chad Kroeger was selected prior to the release of Made of Steel, and it was too late to switch songs. Raimi had said that the specific lyrics of Made of Steel, "Hold your head high, don't look down, I'm by your side, won't back down. You wanted a Hero tonight", perfectly represented Spider-Man and the franchise.[citation needed] Some might find this strange considering the song is titled Made of Steel which is a popular phrase used to describe Superman-- however, the lyrics state "I'm NOT made of steel, but your secret's safe with me" which explains the fit.
