Maddington is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Gosnells. Maddington has a railway station and has, like numerous other towns, been engaging in transit-oriented development planning.[2] The Metropolitan Centres Policy of the Western Australian Planning Commission classifies Maddington as a "regional centre".[3]

Maddington had 9875 people as of Census Night, 2001, up 1060 people from 1996, a 2.3% annual increase. Around 97% of the recorded population were residents, with 0.48% from other countries and 2.8% from elsewhere in Australia, most of them coming from other states.
On average, a square kilometre in Maddington harboured some 878 people in 2001.
There were 3,686 occupied residences in Maddington in 2001, with 94% of them being detached houses, 1% being flats, and 3% being terrace houses or townhouses. 208 of the dwellings in Maddington were unoccupied, and the number of dwellings grew 3.1% per annum between 1996 and 2001. Occupancy per residence was about 2.7 people in 2001.[4]
Some 64% of the people in Maddington on Census Day had been born in Australia, and another 12% were native to the United Kingdom, with New Zealand, the Philippines, and China being the fastest growing origins. 11% of the people of Maddington spoke a language other than English at home. 3.9% of the people in Maddington were Indigenous Australians, 389 people in all, which had been an increase of 104 people since 1996. Catholics (23%), Anglican (22%), and secular (22%) were the largest religious adherences among the population of Maddington.[4]
