[edit] My username
Hi MacGyverMagic. Thanks for alerting me to the WP:RFCN about my username. I can see where my username probably qualifies as "misleading", since it contains an "apparently random sequence of characters". The numbers actually do have some significance (I can explain it to you if you're interested). As per your suggestion/request, I have given some consideration to having my account renamed, but for the moment I think I'll stick with my current username - primarily for reasons of continuity. If I continue to get reports that people find my username confusing or difficult to use, then I'll probably change it. OK? DH85868993 12:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] My (Selket's) RfA
Thank you, MacGyverMagic/Archive, for your support on my recent RfA, which recently passed 54/1/1. I hope I can live up to everyone's expectations. I will certainly take the constructive criticism I recieved to heart. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page. [edit] An Automated Message from HagermanBot
Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 12:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Albanian Land Forces
I saw your edit on the Talk page of the Albanian Land Forces Command: Talk:Albanian Land Forces Command you were right the information posted by the user Gon4z is outdated and mostly wrong. Right now I'm trying to update the pages of the Albanian Military, but Gon4z is resorting to personal attacks on my Talk page: i.e. "you did not citise anything its all crap you stright out deleted everything just because you are an anti Albanian dont mean you ahve to go around spreading propaganda you so called contribution of deeting articles are not wealcomed" and has begun an edit war. Any help in containing user Gon4z insistence on going on with posting wrong information is appreciated. noclador 23:42, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

The RFD for Microsoft fonts was not a duplicate and should not have been removed[1]. The other debate is for Microsoft typefaces which is a different page. The nominator could have chosen to combine them, but didn't. Thanks. -- JLaTondre 11:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Project deletion
I'd been browsing through Category:Inactive WikiProjects and had tagged 25 or so projects for deletion (13 were speedy candidates and 12 are at MfD). The 13 speedy candidates were all created as a result of bot error. I'm sure some of them would be valid projects (e.g., Surgery), but the pages contained no content beyond an {{inactive}} tag. The rest (at MfD) are projects that have been inactive for a long time and which never got off the ground to start with, mostly due to their narrow scope. I'm trying to be selective in my deletion nominations and am leaving alone projects with viable topics. An example would be WikiProject Albania, which has been inactive for many months, but obviously has had a lot of work invested, has a viable scope, and could be easily revived with the addition of just one or two editors. I'm even considering reactivating this project myself, as it would give me a chance to put my knowledge of German to use. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 17:09, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: MfD archive load times
The load time increased slightly after I transcluded everything directly on the monthly archive pages, mostly because I also transcluded a number of discussions that were missing from the original archives. However, since Xaosflux changed the archive pages to the new format ... regular links instead of transclusions ... the load time is significantly less. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 17:29, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Alves Arbuthnot
I think you made a mistake on this AfD - the person in question, John Alves Arbuthnot, is not a member of the Peerage. Additonally even if he was a Baronet like his father then he still wouldnt be a Peer as the title of Baronet is below the level of a peer. regards--Vintagekits 11:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think you are mixing up a Baron with a Baronet - easy mistake to make, I did the same myself until I did research. A Baron is a peer and historically gave a seat in the House of Lords, whereas a Baronet does not and is ceremonial title. Additionally only the oldest sons inherits the title of Baronet not all sons I assume that is why he didnt get the title. regards--Vintagekits 11:39, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Not really sure I understood the question but I dont think that it is the issue anyway as he isnt a Baron or a Baronet. If you click on both of the articles I have linked you hould be able to find the difference between the two. Let me know if you need any more help. regards--Vintagekits 11:51, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] [WikiEN-l] 17,268 badly referenced living biographies
Simply deleting material that was tagged without looking for possible sources, is not the way to handle that backlog. Yes, we should be careful about BLPs but unless the material is libellous or otherwise negative, there's no need to go "whacking" it. You deleted material that could easily have been referenced using one of the article's external links. Please slow down and don't try to handle more than 10 articles in 5 minutes. Doing so means you had 30 seconds to evaluate the information and find a source, which you couldn't possibly have given enough attention in that time. At least take the time to put the subject into Google. - Mgm|(talk) 12:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- I shall endeavor to be more selective in deleting in the future. However, please do note that when the external links did provide support for a statement in an article or pointed to an easily found source, I did source the statement rather than deleting. See [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], and [11] for examples. -- Jonel | Speak 14:27, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opposition Leaders FLC
I really do not know how to answer this question. However I can say that the majority of Australian media use a capital L. In addition the Featured Canadian version of this page uses a capital L. Todd661 09:13, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- In Australia, the Opposition is not referred to as the Australian Opposition it is more often referred to as the Opposition. This article is about the leader of this party, and therefore becomes the Leader of the Opposition. This article is about the Australian Leaders of the Opposition - hence the current title. [edit] Chemical equilibrium
Many thanks for your comments. We have a real problem here which I hope you can help me with since I am out of touch with chemistry at pre-university level.
The problem is, how to present the subject to the general reader and at the same time not make erroneous simplifications. I tried to do this by using the example of ethanoic acid but clearly this has not worked for Wooty. This article is cited by so many others. In a lot of them the activity (chemistry) issue is botched, as it is in the original article, so I wanted to deal with it properly here and then go on to clean up the others. I did it already for solubility product. BUT, how does one present the concept of activity to the general reader? How much chemistry is the general reader supposed to know? (Incidentally I did not cite Atkins because his treatment (I only have the first edition!) does not go far enough on the activity issue, or on multiple equilibria).
I am strongly opposed to deriving the equilibrium concept from kinetics as, once learnt, this (historical) derivation has to be unlearnt and replaced by the thermodynamic derivation. The original mass action of Guldberg and Waage was incorrect in so far as rate laws do not necessarily follow stoichiometry, whereas equilibrium constants do so. I believe that kinetics is pretty much irrelevant to equilibrium, so I banished it from my draft.
The other thing which troubles me is the Wikipedia notion of concensus. In a printed encyclopedia the articles are written by acknowledged experts, but in Wiki it seems that experts are equal to laymen. I have more than 30 years experience of research and teaching in equilibrium chemistry at Leeds University home page. Naturally I present the topic as I think it should be presented. When it comes to highly technical material how far must one go to accomodate the gereral reader? The Wiki policy is ambivalent - just look at the stuff on quantum mechanics, Molecular Hamiltonian, for instance, how much of that will the general reader understand?
Sorry to go on at length, but I feel strongly that there are too many article in Wikipedia that contain fundamental errors. For one of the worst, look at reversible reaction. Irreversible reactions are often called "spontaneous" or "favorable". These reactions are usually entropically driven, as opposed to thermodynamically driven. In an irreversible reaction, there is generally a great increase in entropy. What complete and utter rubbish! Petergans 09:26, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments. They are really helpful. Regarding the kinetics question, putting it in the introduction is a good idea. I think it would be fair to say that the kinetics criterion is necessary but not sufficient to explain equilibrium.
I've put up an RFF for reversible reaction, as I've not heard of the concept before and don't know what context it's used in - another case of missing verifiable source. Petergans 10:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I will welcome your comments on the new chemical equilibrium and the comments already made on its talk page. Petergans 20:38, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] His Holiness Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi
Dear Mgm,
Thanks for your response regarding my queries on deletion of my article on His Holiness Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi.
Please be informed that Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi (25th November, 1941 to 25th November 2001) was the World Famous Spiritualist from Pakistan. He was basically a Muslim but his school of thoughts has attracted uncountable people of all religions and sect. He preached about the Divine Love of Almighty Allah without any discrimination any person of any religion or sect can love with God, if he/she learns the spiritualism.
Members of all faiths and religions invited His Holiness for lectures on spirituality to their places of worship mosques, temples, and churches in order to acquire the teachings of heart-invocation.
He enlightened the hearts of thousands of people with the invocation of God, and inspired a large number of people towards Divine Love. A large number of men and women repented and gave up sinful deeds, and inclined towards God. His Holiness cured numerous people with incurable diseases through His spiritual healing.
Then, God manifested His Face on the Moon. Later His Image appeared in the Holy Black Stone (now fitted in, Kaa'ba, Mecca). His fame spread in the four corners of the globe. Mullahs, deprived of the spiritual insight, and those Muslims who begrudge saints, disapproved of His Holiness Gohar Shahi. Misusing the writings in His Books they issued verdicts of disbelief and death against his Holiness Gohar Shahi. They threw a petrol bomb at His residence in Manchester, and they once threw a hand grenade on Him while He was addressing a spiritual gathering in Kotri, Pakistan. A huge amount of money was set aside as a bounty on His Head.
In Pakistan, they instigated against His Holiness five false cases, very sensitive in nature. Due to Nawaz Shareef, the former prime minister of Pakistan, the Provincial Government of Sind also became involved. Of those cases, two consist of murder, one of possession of illegal arms and another of illegal possession of land. They also caused to register a case of illegal detainment of a woman in America. Yellow journalism left no stone unturned in trying to defame and dishonour him. Finally, after hearing and thorough investigation, acquitted all the cases declaring them false. The God thus continued to save His friend from all calamities.

hi how are you? i remember you were giving me advices about fixing the article but not to open a new thread on the issue, right? Then now i expect you to come and fix the vandalisms that started since the time Alexius opened a new article about the whole issue of massacres in that time..User hectorian by now already violated three revert rule--laertes d 21:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
The only vandalism has been done by Laertes. He has already been banned several times for your nonsense vandalizing articles on issues pertaining to the Greek Revolution. Please read the discussion pages and it should be quite evident that Laertes has managed to contribute nothing of substance other than various vandalism. AlexiusComnenus 02:03, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
Alexius stiop this game of following me in every single place, you shoul understand that youre not convinvcing anybody but these same people dont want any mention of the massacres in Peloponnese in a decsent way and thats why people are doing nothing about you..
Magyver, as you know you and others previously voted for the deletion of the article claiming it to be POVfork and now alexius opened a new thread Massacres during the Greek Revolution in which he blatantly impose his national point of views assisted by a number of his greek nationalists and the ignorance of administrators he keep deleting well sourced informations. i personally think that you have a moral responsibility to fix the article, regards..--laertes d 12:49, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

- This list passes all featured list criteria (see here). Concensus agrees that this list does not need birth and death dates. See List of Canadian Leaders of the Opposition and List of Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom for comparable lists that do not show this information. - "Hello, I see that you have played a part in recent changes at Garrett A. Morgan. I ask you to please have a look at the Talk page for this article. I have been at pains for months to undo edits which fly in the face of well-documented facts, and I fear that, recently, you have ended up in the midst of this fray. I am a researcher, historian, and admirer of Morgan, who has spent many years working with Mr. Morgan's papers; I only seek to have his entry reflect the facts as they are, follow NPOV, and to link to any and all relevant pages which reference them, but I have been inundated by folks who just want to use Morgan to blow their own horns. Transcoding with the Wizard is pretty simple. Let's pretend your stream is a video file. After making sure that VLC can open the format of the video file, open the Wizard. Select transcode/save to file. Select the video file stream, and press Next. If you need to or wish to convert the format of the video file stream, here is where you would select your codecs. Press next. If you're not interested in changing the container format of the video, select RAW. Otherwise, select a desired format. Then let it roll! Hopefully this was helpful, here is a link also [13]. Splintercellguy 08:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Play in Browser
Do the announced improvements include the possibility of pausing, rewinding and fast-forwarding the media? (Please leave me a note on my talk page if you answer here). - Mgm|(talk) 12:10, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- The Java part of the player has supported pausing and seeking for a while. However the indicator fails to show how far along in the file you currently are, and seeking outside of the buffer will cause the file to restart reloading, so seeking is a little unpredictable. The latest enhancements to the player make it no longer dependent on Java. Native players (VLC, ogg plugin, and video tag) are used instead of java when they are available. All the native players I have tested support pausing and seeking, and all appear to be somewhat more robust than the Java based playback code. I have not personally tested all the native players that work, and I haven't been asking people if they can pause or seek in them, so it's possible that pausing and seeking isn't available for some users.
- I don't think anyone has previously asked me about pausing/seeking... I'll be mindful of the need for it in the future. (feel free to reply here, I'll find it) --Gmaxwell 12:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip off. What you say makes sense. Do you think we should just go ahead and change the guidelines on the magic project page or does it require a proposal on the talk page first to seek a wider consensus? I really don't know :) It's not something I thought about in detail when I wrote. I guess there's no way merging can affect your milestones. :-P I'll change it next time a re-localization is required. Cheers, Tangotango (talk) 05:23, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] new to wikipedia, but maybe you can shed some more light on how to accomplish?
HI, thanks for responding to my query about conflict of interests. I tried posting this under "the Advice Sisters" as well as our individual names: Alison Blackman Dunham ala. "Advice Sister Alison" and Jessica Blackman Freedman aka. "Advice Sister Jessica." I tried to place there where I felt it belonged most reasonably, in the Famous Twins/Popular Culture wiki, next to the other famous set of advice giving twins known for print advice columns: Ann & Abby. Please note that unlike A&A, the Advice Sisters were not part of a huge media machine, and have kept a much lower profile than Ann & Abby. Other than a long history online, we do have verifiable credentials, including being credited by four college professors in an academic textbook with bringing the advice inot-tainment genre online nearly 1 1/2 decades ago. The textbook is: Marriage and Family Experience: Relationships Changing Society 8th Edition by Bryan Strong, Christine DeVault, Theodore F. Cohen (Thompson-Wadsworth,2004) We are quoted in the Yale Law Journal: Rules of Engagement by Rebecca Tushnet The Yale Law Journal, Vol. 107, No. 8 (Jun., 1998), pp. 2583-2618 doi:10.2307/797351 This article consists of 36 page(s). and (along with Ann Landers) as "Jessica Blackman Freedman & Alison Blackman Dunham, The Wedding Belles" (Mar. 25, 1998) <http:// www.blissezine.com/bel97101.htm>; Deb McCoy, Frequently Asked Questions on Wedding Expenses (visited Mar. 25, 1998) <http:// www.weddingpages.com/expert/faqexp.html>. *alas, this page appears to be no longer available online.
If you and your editors are unfamiliar with The Advice Sisters, there is a modest amount of informatio about us at: http://www.advicesisters.net/aboutus3.html on one of out two web sites.
Apart from the fact that I loved my sister and am very proud of what we created together, I believe we have had a significant role to play in the formation of online advice sites and services. To "wait" for someone to discover this seems a bit odd. I am very confused by how wikipedia works, but I know my sister would be pleased to be included in it, as would I.
Thanks for whatever assistance you can provide

[edit] Chemical equilibrium again
Sorry to bother you again, but I don't know who else to turn to. We have a reversion war starting and I don't want to take any further part in it. The history is as follows.
I have rewritten chemical equilibrium because it was full of errors and seriously deficient in content. I could see no way to putting things right by incremental edits, because the structure of the article was inadequate. So I worked the article up and received comments on the draft. After taking these and your comments into consideration I pasted the new article over the old one.
The trouble started when Loom91 destroyed the lead section, simply pasted in bits of the old article (using different notation for the same things), introduced errors of science and made parts of it unintelligible. I felt that he has made a terrible mess of it and that it would be better for him to start again. I "reverted" (actually put in a revised version which I thought would answer the implied criticisms) and left a message on the talk page pointing out why I had done this and inviting him to try again. Instead he reverted back to his previous version (incidentally in the process removing a recent edit by V8rik). Loom31 has shown himself (or herself) to have a very poor grasp of thermodynamics, which is central to the topic. He shows no respect for what I have written and certainly does not respect the fact that I am expert in this field. In one of his contributions on the talk page he actually said that expertise was immaterial and that all that matters is that sources should be verifiable. His general understanding of the topic is poor and he seems to think that this does not matter.
The other editor involved in these disputes, V8rik, has stated that he (or she) does not follow the thermodynamics of either the original article or the new one. In one of his earlier contributions on the talk page he admitted that he "had lost the thread".
There is an issue underlying the dispute which you have already touched on, namely that the law of mass-action is still being taught in schools in spite of the fact that it is obsolete and unsound. At University it's of historical interest only. I tried to reconcile this issue by giving the history in the lead section, with reasons why mass-action is unsound. Loom91 messed this up by separating the rate equations from the the equilibrium they relate to.
I'm at a loss to know how to proceed. Loom91 has simply ignored my pleading on the talk page (second try) that he act reponsibly. Concensus seems to be impossible to achieve. His last revert is clearly a provocative act. I will not respond to this provocation. Unless the dispute is resolved the article stays in the mess that it is in and the reputation of wikipedia will suffer in consequence.

[edit] Copy of text
Yes, could you please give me a copy of the 2000-present article, which was deleted before I could copy it. The other articles I have already copied into off-wiki word documents.--Azer Red Si? 19:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] email
I tried enabling my email a while ago, but it wouldn't work (I don't think my email account provider is supported by the feature). Could you just create it in my userspace, so I can copy it into a word document, and I'll let you know once I've done so, so you can delete the userspace page if you want to.--Azer Red Si? 20:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I copied the text to a word doc. You can delete the subpage now if you want to.--Azer Red Si? 00:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
