J.P. was previously a chemist and an independent researcher at both the graduate and undergraduate level in molecular biology and biochemistry.
[edit] Technology
J.P. primarily uses Ubuntu Linux and - to a lesser extent - Mac OS X. On the Linux Counter he is number 430047 with three Ubuntu boxes registered.
While he has no formal experience in system administration, he has accumulated a significant amount of troubleshooting experience with different operating systems and is often sought after by friends and colleagues in exchange for a free dinner or soft drinks.
[edit] Blogging
He also maintains a blog that deals with his interests as well as other topics. It makes for some entertaining reading.
[edit] Cars & Driving
J.P. is a former tuner turned driver after enough police harassment and frivolous traffic tickets. He joined the National Motorists Association in May 2006 after receiving a speeding ticket for driving at 75 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. He currently owns a slightly modified Toyota Matrix.
[edit] Issues
J.P. is a vocal critic of red light cameras, speed traps, and especially equipment-based citations meant to discourage street racing.
J.P. primarily listens to electronic dance music and underground hip hop. He generally avoids commercial radio and will often tune into either KCRW or KUCI. He also has an extensive collection of EDM and underground hip hop tracks as well as DJ sets.
