[edit] GMTV Regional News
Macmillan Media produces GMTV Northern Ireland weekdays at 06.35, 07.05 and 08.05. UTV, the local ITV contractor has not produced the bulletin since December 1994 due to a dispute between GMTV and UTV. UTV were replaced during GMTV by Reuters, followed by ITN, then Macmillan Media.
Macmillian Media began providing the GMTV news bulletins in Central and Northern Scotland. The former is presented by Kirsteen O'Sullivan (GMTV Scotland) and the latter by Catherine Brown (GMTV Grampian).
It took over the contract when GMTV did not renew STV's contract to supply early morning Scotland Today and North Today bulletins. STV had supplied GMTV with its news since the breakfast channel took over from TV-am in 1993.[1] From its Glasgow office, Macmillan Media began its Scottish service on December 3 2007.[2]
[edit] Northern Ireland Assembly Broadcast Systems
Macmillan Media were responsible for building all of the broadcast systems currently installed in the Northern Ireland Assembly. From 1999 to 2005 Macmillan Media provided a video, sound and broadcast service on behalf of the Northern Ireland Assembly.[3] [4]
Controversy
Following a freedom of information request made by the Belfast Telegraph, it emerged that Macmillan Media had received a total of £299,927 over three financial years, during which, the Northern Ireland Assembly was suspended and local politicians were members of a legislative assembly (MLAs) in name only. Macmillan Media was also paid £273,575 in 2002/03 with suspension occurring midway through this financial year. The payments covered management fees and sums for maintaining TV equipment. A new broadcasting contract for the assembly was given to Belfast Media Company Pi Communications in August in 2005.[5]
