Macksville is a small town on the Nambucca River in Nambucca Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It is halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the Pacific Highway and the North Coast railway line. In 2001 it had a population of 2,658,[1] although the sign at the entrance to the town claims a population of 7000. This included 144 (6.7%) indigenous persons and 1,854 (86%) Australian-born persons.
It is home to the famous Macksville Bridge and Star Hotel, located on River Street and overlooking the Nambucca River. The Nambucca Shire Council chambers are located in Macksville.

Named after Angus Mackay and Hugh McNally who built the Star Hotel in 1885 - the town became Macks Village before changing to Macksville.

Macksville has no radio stations of its own, however 2NVR FM is the Nambucca Valley's Community Radio Station.

Macksville achieved perhaps the pinnacle of its international fame when Bill Bryson wrote of his adventures there in Chapter 12 of his book, "Down Under", published as "A Sunburnt Country" in the USA. [2]
Frank John Partridge VC is a famous son. His bravery during World War II and success on the radio quiz show Pick-a-Box are well-documented.[3]

Macksville is known for its passion in Rugby league and has been home of the Macksville Sea Eagles since 1912. From 2002 to 2007 Macksville has won five group 2 titles and have proven them selves as a force to be reckoned with in group 2 rugby league.
Macksville has a strong sporting history and holds the Macksville Gift annually on the 1st saturday in November. The Gift is the second oldest running race in Australia second behind the Stawell gift.
Macksville also has several sporting stars such as Greg Inglis, Melbourne Storm. Inglis has played representative matches for Queensland, Australia and in 2007 won a Telstra premiership with Melbourne Storm.
Recently Phillip Hughes has become talk of the town gaining a spot in the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues. Hughes has won his first rookie contract after an excellent season in grade cricket.
Macksville has 3 primary schools: Macksville Public School, St.Patrick's School and the Hibiscus Christian School. It also has one secondary school, Macksville High School.
Macksville holds an annual show. The Macksville Show is held on the last weekend in April. The showground also hosts a range of other events throughout the year including cattle sales, the "Rusty Iron Rally" and "Pro-Ag".
Macksville is home to many restaurants and cafes, including Michael Yeung's Macksville Chinese Restaurant, Giardino Italian Pizza & Pasta restaurant and Salz Pizza, next to the Star Hotel.
