Carlson played Colonel Ranald Mackenzie, commander of the 4th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Clark, Texas in the 1870's. Colonel Mackenzie receives secret order from President U.S. Grant and General Phil Sheridan to stop Mexican bandits from crossing the Rio Grande River into the U.S. or from returning to Mexico. The show continued as Mackenzie and his raiders ride deep into Mexican territory, but the Raiders also fought gunfighters and renegade Indians. The syndicated show only lasted one season.
