Mackay Stadium is an outdoor football stadium on the campus of the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada. It is the home field of the Nevada Wolf Pack of the Western Athletic Conference. Located on the northern end of campus at 17th Street & East Stadium Way, the stadium opened in 1966 with a seating capacity of 7,500. After several expansions, it currently seats 31,000. [1]
It replaced the original Mackay Stadium, formerly located in the bowl containing Hilliard Plaza, the Mack Social Sciences building and the Reynolds School of Journalism. Both stadiums were named for Clarence Mackay, a university benefactor in the early years of the school.
The playing field sits at an elevation of 4610 feet (1405 m) above sea level. [2] Originally natural grass, it was replaced with synthetic FieldTurf in 2000. The field runs in a NW to SE configuration, with the press box on the west sideline. Permanent lighting was installed in 2003, allowing the option of night games. [3]
