Machismo is funk/R&B group Cameo's 1988 followup to their smash album Word Up!. The album featured R&B hits "You Make Me Work" and "Skin I'm In", both of which have been issued on various compilation albums. Despite these hits and the Miles Davis collaboration "In the Night", the album makes blatant attempts to cash in on the popularity of its predecessor. "Pretty Girls" uses the same delivery and style of "Word Up!" and "Honey" is so close to "Candy", it approaches parody. The album still performed fairly well, reaching #10 on the R&B charts, but this album marked the beginning of the steady decline in Cameo's popularity after their apex of Word Up!.
