Macchiponpu "match -(English) pomp -(Dutch; pump English)" is a Japanese expression using English and Dutch words which means "after setting fire using a match, quench it using a pump." (engrish). Getting rewarded (or making money) for solving the problem initiated by him/herself. Confidence trickers often use this technique.

It was used first in 1966 political scandal. This expression appeared in dictionary edited in 1974.

A local firefighter commits arson, then go to the firehouse, then go back to the crime scene with a fire engine right away. Because s/he was raved, s/he repeated. Occasionally, s/he set out before any command. However, as it happened many times, investigation revealed the truth. This is literally a 'match pump.'

An infamous cracker writes a book, "how to avoid unauthorized access".

After "Free estimate", telling that there is a grave problem, you need something before it is too late. (and asking price is EXTREMELY expensive). In a strict sense, this is not "match pump" (match stage is missing), however, it could be done (e.g. exterminator put dead mouse body.)
