MacTheRipper

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MacTheRipper is a Mac OS X application that enables users to extract DVD content for backup purposes. The current public release version is 2.6.6. The longstanding lack of an OS X equivalent to DVDShrink gave the standalone freeware ripper widespread popularity among Macintosh users.

Development releases of MTR3 (MacThe Ripper version 3) are available to those who have given a donation to the author during the Beta phase. The current donation rate in order to get a copy of the software from the developer is US$40.00.

MTR3 will be distributed freely pending development completion. It should be noted, however, that MTR3 has been in Beta phase since April 30th 2006 [1], leading some to speculate that the developer's intentions are to keep it in Beta phase indefinitely, as this allows him to collect fees without having to call his software shareware. [2]

MacTheRipper was developed in 2002 and since then the program has over 2 million users.[citation needed]
