One of the key figures in the history of Hi Records, "Teenie Hodges" did for Al Green what Steve Cropper did for Otis Redding.
Born in 1946, the Memphis, TN guitarist and his brothers played on sessions for the artists on Hi, and "Teenie"'s guitar was one of the most familiar sounds of the 1970s.
"Teenie" Hodges has also struck gold several times as a songwriter. Stax's writing team of Isaac Hayes and David Porter encouraged and co-wrote with Hodges "I Take What I Want" (an early Sam & Dave hit covered by Aretha Franklin, among others)). He later co-wrote with Al Green several songs, including "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)", "Take Me to the River", and "Love and Happiness", which quickly became standards covered by countless music artists of all stripes.
