[edit] remove apostrophe from title

  • remove - I oppose the use of the apostrophe in article titles. It is not proper English use (this wiki), but simply the way it sounds and another case of bad Israeli road sign spelling. Also, the Hebrew word maaleh is one word, not two. Similarly perpexling is Rosh HaAyin. Why is there a change of case in the middle of that word? --Shuki 19:23, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep - there are several policies which warrant it. They are: Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Use_English_words - policy that talks about using the official English spelling of a word (Ma'ale Efraim is the official spelling, because it is used on the town website); Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use common names of persons and things - policy which talks about using the most commonly used name for a thing (there are far more Google hits for Ma'ale Efraim, Ma'ale Ephraim and Ma'aleh Efraim combined than for Maale Efraim, Maale Ephraim and Maaleh Efraim); Wikipedia:Naming_conventions (Hebrew) - not an official policy, although consensus has been reached on it ages ago, so it should technically be one - says under Alef/Ayin that if it's preceeded by a vowel, there should be an apostrophe. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 10:12, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Regarding Rosh HaAyin, there is no policy on this, but I personally believe that capitalizing the letter after Hey HaYedia is the best option. I mean, it's better to have HaAyin than Ha'ayin, don't think think? Same with Heyl HaMishtara HaTzva'it vs. Heyl Hammishtara Hattzva'it. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 10:17, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
