Ma'am May We Go Out is a Philippine comedy film produced by Viva Films in 1984. It starred the hit comedy trio of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon (more popularly known as Tito Vic and Joey). They were ably supported by young actors JC Bonnin, Nino Muhlach and Ramon Christopher in the movie directed by Mike Relon Makiling.
[edit] Plot
The Soriano brothers Dennis (Tito Sotto), Chip (Vic Sotto) and Jeff (Joey de Leon) are good-for-nothing bums who do odd jobs to earn a living, including driving a jeepney. Their lives took a 180-degree turn when they met Atty. Aga Agaton (Rodolfo Boy Garcia) who told them that they are long-lost heirs of a rich millionaire. The Soriano brothers were allowed to get the whole inheritance but only on one condition: To finish high school. If not, the share goes to the lawyer's assets.
So the brothers decided to enroll at the nearby Datu Puti High School where they were initially discriminated by a group of young boys (led by JC Bonnin and Ramon Christopher) for being too old for education. But the Soriano brothers befriended the young boys after they saved them from a group of bullies. They also befriended Einstein (Nino Muhlach), the genius student, in order to get away with the most difficult subjects in school.
Trouble starts when the Soriano brothers became involved in different mishaps happening in the school (see Gags in the Movie), resulting to endless confrontations with the school principals (Joonee Gamboa and Esther Chavez). But through bribery and settlements, the brothers were able to pass through high school and were all set to get their inheritance.
But Atty. Aga Agaton had other things in mind. He wanted the money for himself so he plotted with his inept bodyguard to sabotage the high school graduation of the Soriano brothers by bombing the school. In the graduation, the Soriano brothers were given a special award by the Principal despite a lot of troubles they caused in the school. As a gratitude, Dennis, Chip and Jeff shared the special award with Atty. Agaton. The lawyer hesitantly accepted the trophy only to find out that the bomb was planted on the trophy given to them by the trio.
[edit] Gags in the Movie
- At the start of the movie, a passenger gave out a paper money worth P100 to Dennis (Tito) who played a jeepney driver. But Dennis rejected it because he had no loose change. Chip (Vic) who was beside his brother, took the money and gave a big plastic bag containing coins to the passenger.
- An English teacher asked Chip what his real name was, primarily because he didn't believe that Chip was a Christian name. The student replied with hesitance that Chip was short to "Chipipoy", eliciting laughter among the students. In Filipino, Chipipoy is a slang word for "cheap".
- The Filipino teacher's name in the movie was Lakambini Fundador. Her policy in her Filipino class was to speak strictly in Filipino, which Jeff (Joey) protested because in their English class they were not allowed to speak in Filipino. Ms. Fundador threw a blackboard eraser at the brothers with Dennis using a notebook as a slingshot to block the eraser, which landed back to the teacher.
- The Soriano brothers and Einstein were late in their Science class and were not allowed to do the experiment. As punishment, they were made to stand in the corner. Chip saw a box of styrofoam and mistaken it for softdrinks. Instead, he got a frog and in shock, the box fell out, causing the swarm of frogs to scatter all over the laboratory room. The science teacher got exploded in the face while trying to control the commotion.
- In the initial confrontation between the Soriano brothers and the principals, the 3 brothers were allowed to organize a fund-raising show to make up for their mistakes. What Dennis, Jeff and Chip did was to set up a musical-variety program with a lot of vulgarity (high school girls dancing in skimpy attire) and pyrotechnics (one of the pyrotechnics exploded at Einstein). The fund-raising caused more trouble to the brothers but they were able to raise a lot of money for the school.
- During a test for Filipino, the Soriano brothers connived with Einstein so that they can cheat during the exams. The proceedings went on smoothly except that when the results came out, Einstein did get a 100 but the brothers did not. The teacher later told them that the three were caught cheating, not only Einstein's answers but also his own name as well!
- The characters of JC and Ramon had love interests but they were unable to express their feelings. They went to Dennis, Chip and Jeff to get tips on how to court a girl. The trio was able to teach the young boys how to court but with disastrous results.
- During the JS Prom sequence, Chip had a beautiful and sexy date that arrived in the middle of the said school event. As a gentleman, he had to offer a drink to his date. Unknown to him, the punch drink that he offered was laced with too much gin that the younger boys (JC, Ramon) had put in. After two glasses of drink, Chip's date suddenly became aggressive on the dance floor. In the middle of the music, the girl showed her true colors and undressed in front of the high school students. Turns out that the girl Chip had invited to the prom date was a striptease dancer.
