[edit] Patton or Pershing

I have several books that claim the official "name" of the M46 was actually Pershing, and that it was only known unofficially as the Patton. Has anyone else heard that? I can't remember the titles of the book at the moment but they have proven credible in the past. I believe that one was written by Christopher Foss. He might be wrong, as many internet sources claim it also to be the Patton.SAWGunner89 16:53, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

M46 has never been named "Patton" because was an improved M26 Pershing!

Item 32312 of the Ordnance Technical Committee Minutes ... standardized the modernized Pershing as medium tank M46 ... OCM 32312 also nicknamed the M46 the General Patton (Hunnicutt - Patton - A History of the American Main Battle Tank). Bukvoed (talk) 20:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

The M46 is a improved Pershing only, nothing else! Nickname Patton I and Patton II was reserved for the M47 and M48! But...PATTONMANIA is a disease in this part of WP! I'll give up!
